Boiler Fuel Consumption Calculator
Understanding Boiler Fuel Consumption
How the Calculation Works
Fuel Consumption (kg/h) = (Boiler Capacity × (Steam Enthalpy - Feedwater Enthalpy)) / (Fuel GCV × Efficiency)
Key Variables Explained
- Boiler Capacity: Steam output in kilograms per hour (kg/hr)
- Steam Enthalpy: Total heat energy in steam (kCal/kg)
- Feedwater Enthalpy: Heat energy in incoming water (kCal/kg)
- Efficiency: Your boiler's thermal efficiency percentage
- Fuel GCV: Gross Calorific Value of your fuel (kCal/kg)
Typical Fuel Calorific Values
| Fuel Type | GCV Range (kCal/kg) |
| Natural Gas | 10,000–11,000 |
| Diesel Oil | 10,000–10,500 |
| Coal | 4,000–7,000 |
| Biomass | 3,000–5,000 |
Improving Boiler Efficiency
To reduce fuel consumption:
- Maintain proper combustion conditions
- Minimize heat losses through insulation
- Implement regular boiler maintenance
- Optimize feedwater temperature
